As I write this, our street is a sheet of ice, but spring IS on its way, and along with it an exciting season of events for Landis. By the time you read this, most of our Second Sunday Snowshoes will be history, but there is so much else to look forward to at the Arb this year!
Several favorites return, and new soon-to-be-favorites premiere:
• Our Schoolyard Naturalist George Steele has a wonderful calendar of fourteen classes. Hawk Watch and Hawk Identification, Navigating with a Magnetic Compass, and the ever-popular Halloween Owl Prowlare among the very popular selections.
• Shayne Mitchell returns with three Bluebird Trail Walks and his class on Setting Up a Bluebird Nesting Box - and soon to be announced, another Bluebird nesting lottery.
• There will be Drum Circles on first and third Wednesdays from June through September.
• The Albany Amateur Astronomers Association will provide a Star Party each month from March through October.
• Thanks to a generous grant from Poets and Writers, we will again be hosting Cultivating a Nature Journal, a four-session writing series in May and June with popular writing instructor Gert Coleman.
• New this year is Early Birding: A Birding Workshop for Kids, which marks a return to the Arb by Chris Keefer, who was an Arboretum volunteer several years ago,
• Wendy Kass brings another Ice Dyeing class to stimulate your crafting senses, and
• Fred Breglia’s Pruning: The Basics, and Beyond! usually fills quickly, so don’t forget to register if you want to know the lowdown on pruning.
All this, and much more! For important information on these and other events, like dates, times, and registration, visit our website at landisarboretum.org/events, or look at Events on our Facebook page. Whether you visit Landis to join in one (or several) of these intriguing classes, or just to enjoy a day in nature, we hope to see you at the Arboretum this season!
